Trenton Makes, The World Takes: XXXX – XXXX

Between 1907 and 1908, Frantisek Janecek, wife Marie, and four children would make the move from Mott Haven in the Bronx, NY to Trenton NJ. Frantisek worked for the J.L. Mott Corporation. The company was well known for producing bathroom fixtures, everything from sinks to bathtubs. Because the company casted these items, they had other side businesses. Once such business was creating large iron rods used in theatres. As Frantisek was a tailor by trade, he would make the curtains that went along with these rods.

The company originally announced their plan to move around 1903, but also planned to build new facilities in Trenton to house their operations. They would eventally share a space with the Trenton Cerramic Works down on river street.

A First Home

When Frantisek moved to Trenton, he would buy the first and only house the Janecek family would own at 1011 Smith Street. This would only last until 1911 when the city took the property by eminanet domain. The current location of the house is the parking lot behind XXXXXXX school.
